Job Title: Principal Metrology Engineer

Location: Barrow-in-Furness

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Metrology Engineer to join our team at BAE Systems. As a key member of our Calibration department, you will be responsible for leading the dimensional team and contributing to the leadership of the ICS Dimensional team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the leadership of the ICS Dimensional team, including people management, resource management, workflow management, and workload signoff.
  • Perform high-end calibrations and repairs on a wide variety of dimensional test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).
  • Deliver and measure the effectiveness of on-the-job training and experiential learning to ICS Dimensional team members and apprentices/graduates.
  • Design, review, and approve calibration procedures and measurement uncertainty budgets.
  • Participate in quality audits, achieving UKAS signatory status.
  • Drive the increase in issue of UKAS/ISO 17025 accredited parameters and certification.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience working in a precision dimensional calibration/metrology laboratory environment.
  • Understanding of quality systems and standards (ISO 17025/ISO 9001).
  • Relevant academic qualification (STEM degree, HNC/HND) or equivalent.

About the Team:

The Calibration department supports 30,000 pieces of equipment per year, ranging from traditional analogue equipment to state-of-the-art digital systems. Our team focuses on the calibration, maintenance, and repair of TMDE capable of making length, flatness, parallelism, surface roughness, angular, optical, screw gauge, and CMM measurements.
