Position: Principal Planning Consultant

Their office in Stoke-on-Trent is integral to the Planning division, and they are in search of a Principal Planning Consultant to lend their specialized knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluating and shaping development project proposals, including establishing planning strategies;
  • Conducting pre-application consultations, and preparing planning submissions and appeals;
  • Performing site evaluations;
  • Engaging with community stakeholders;
  • Managing planning projects;
  • Coordinating various technical teams;
  • Preparing proposals and participating in business development initiatives;
  • Collaborating with landowners, developers, and architects;
  • Offering guidance on planning and land use to a diverse clientele, including leading house builders, developers, land promoters, investment firms, utility and infrastructure providers, waste management companies, and local planning authorities throughout all phases of the planning process;
  • Supervising and mentoring team members.


Qualifications:
  • Chartered Town Planner with a relevant degree in Town Planning or a related field;
  • Proven experience in preparing planning applications for both public and private sectors;
  • Exceptional analytical and written communication skills;
  • Strong collaborative work ethic;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and ideally some GIS tools;
  • Excellent organizational and planning abilities;
  • A valid driving license is essential due to nationwide operations.


Successful candidates will demonstrate a high level of technical proficiency and quality of work, performed with minimal oversight, alongside strong analytical, communication, interpersonal, and writing skills. The role demands the ability to manage multiple projects effectively within tight deadlines and requires problem-solving capabilities. This position also involves providing guidance and support to other team members. While the focus is on hiring at the Principal level, consideration for an Associate Director role will depend on the candidate's experience, market reputation, and proven ability to secure new business and maintain existing client relationships.
