About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Director of Compliance to join our team at Redmore Recruitment Limited. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for shaping and driving the strategic direction of our health, safety, and environmental policy and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to our Group Compliance Team.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive compliance strategy aligned with our business goals and growth trajectory.
  • Support and assist Managers and Supervisors to discharge their responsibilities for health and safety as defined by legislation and company policy.
  • Influence and guide our Board of Directors and senior management on health, safety, and environmental matters and represent the business with regulatory authorities and externally as a brand ambassador.
  • Oversee the execution of compliance policies, procedures, and culture programs across the business to ensure the integrated management systems (IMS) are effective on all projects and locations and ensuring compliance with statutory and legal obligations.
  • Develop and instil a continuous improvement ethos amongst Management, Supervisory, and operational staff.
  • Keep up to date with current and pending legislation and a working knowledge of policies, procedures, technical standards, and codes of practice which affect the business.
  • Review Group training matrix and implement measures to ensure continuity of compliance.
  • Lead the review of RAMs and SSoW to ensure employee and supervisor engagement.
  • Support the validation and approval of subcontractors, pre-qualification checks, and onboarding.
  • Oversee and advise on accident investigations, ensuring investigations are of appropriate width and sufficient quality.
  • Ensure that incidents and near misses are effectively managed, reported, investigated. Support the operational teams in embedding lessons learned.
  • Establish and implement a programme to embed and develop a positive culture of health & safety across the Group.
  • Improve employee engagement and commitment to safe working environments.
  • Oversee the compliance program, collaborating closely with department managers and other functional stakeholders to develop, implement, and measure effectiveness aligned to the organisational values to create an empowered, engaged workforce. Lead the safety strategy for the organisation.
  • Identify and implement innovative practices and technologies to enhance Group compliance performance.
  • Lead initiatives that drive operational efficiency, risk mitigation, and employee engagement.
  • Lead an effective inspection and internal audit plan ensuring that the compliance team conduct sufficient levels of site inspections and take a proactive approach to rectifying failures.
  • Set ambitious compliance performance targets, monitor progress, and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Develop and use metrics to measure and drive improvement.
  • Set Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and targets for the Compliance Team and present progress to the Senior Management Team.
  • Develop, review, and update all safety, health, and environmental strategies, policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure they comply with the requirements of ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO45001.
  • Oversee the ISO accreditation audit procedures.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated success in a senior SHEQ/HSE/Compliance Leadership role within the construction, civil engineering, or a related industry and have experience representing the business both with internally and externally.
  • Relevant experience of SHEQ functions within a business of similar complexity & size
  • Working knowledge and understanding of waste permitting, regulations, and associated reporting.
  • Development and implementation of safety management systems
  • Managing major SHEQ incidents
  • Up to date knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation
  • Demonstrated previous experience with HSE, EA/NRW at a high level
  • Proven ability to influence and coach senior leaders to drive successful change management initiatives.
  • Experienced in M&A and Integration of SHEQ in fast-paced/growing business environment.
  • Chartered Membership of IOSH and a relevant degree-level qualification or equivalent.
  • WAMITAB CoTC Level 4
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse teams and stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • First-rate communication and influencing skills
  • Flexible - able to work at all levels and at hands-on level
  • Proven written communication skills
  • Good level of numeracy
  • Computer literate in MS office applications
  • Full driving licence
