Underground Ventilation Systems Engineer

Tunnels and subterranean structures are becoming increasingly vital components of contemporary infrastructure. This infrastructure delivers economic, societal, and environmental advantages by facilitating the swift and efficient movement of individuals underground. This can be observed in mass transit systems, high-speed rail corridors, or highway tunnels.
We are in search of talented and motivated mechanical engineers (or professionals from related quantitative fields) to enhance our tunnel ventilation division. Your role will involve planning, designing, and enabling tunneling initiatives globally, ensuring that our tunnels and underground facilities are secure, comfortable, and dependable.
As a specialist in tunnel ventilation, your responsibilities will include the design and analysis of ventilation systems for both standard and emergency scenarios. You will also evaluate associated components such as fire safety and life safety systems in accordance with client requirements and international standards. Your work will encompass a variety of underground facilities and tunnels, including metro systems, railway stations, road tunnels, cable tunnels, and more.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing and implementing ventilation systems for tunnel projects.
- Ensuring safety through the evaluation of various systems.
- Overseeing the commissioning, operation, refurbishment, and enhancement of tunnel infrastructure.
- Conducting on-site inspections and performance assessments of ventilation systems.
- Utilizing fluid mechanics and thermodynamics for fire and ventilation modeling.
- Executing fire safety engineering, risk assessments, and evacuation analysis.
- Demonstrated experience in the design of ventilation systems for road and rail tunnels, as well as fire and life-safety systems.
- Strong technical and numerical skills developed through academic training, with a solid understanding of fire dynamics, heat transfer, and smoke behavior in confined spaces.
- Proficiency in 1D design tools such as IDA for Road and SES for rail applications.
- Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics modeling and visualization using software like FDS, Pyrosis, and Smokeview.
- Expertise in Movement Modeling Analysis for evacuation and crowd simulations using tools like Pathfinder.
- Current knowledge of relevant legislation and standards in tunnel ventilation design.
- Ability to demonstrate technical proficiency while mentoring and developing junior professionals.

- Strong communication skills for producing clear and concise reports and presentations.
