What does this role entail?

Tunnels and subterranean structures are becoming increasingly vital components of contemporary infrastructure. These systems offer economic, societal, and environmental advantages by facilitating the swift and efficient movement of individuals underground. This encompasses mass transit networks, high-speed rail corridors, and highway tunnels.

We are in search of talented and motivated mechanical engineers (or professionals from related quantitative fields) to become part of our tunnel ventilation division. Your contributions will be essential in planning, designing, and executing tunneling initiatives globally, ensuring that our tunnels and underground facilities are secure, comfortable, and dependable.

As a specialist in tunnel ventilation, your responsibilities will include the design and analysis of ventilation systems for both standard and emergency scenarios. You will evaluate associated components such as fire safety and life protection systems in accordance with client requirements and international standards. Your work will span various underground facilities and tunnels, including metro systems, railway stations, roadway tunnels, cable tunnels, and more.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Designing and implementing ventilation systems for tunnel projects.
  • Ensuring the safety of tunnels through a variety of systems.
  • Overseeing the commissioning, operation, refurbishment, and enhancement of tunnel infrastructure.
  • Conducting on-site inspections and performance evaluations of tunnel ventilation systems.
  • Utilizing fluid mechanics and thermodynamics for fire and ventilation modeling.
  • Executing fire safety engineering, risk assessments, and evacuation analyses.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in the design of ventilation systems for road and rail tunnels, as well as fire and life-safety systems, acquired through involvement in road, rail, and/or metro tunneling projects.
  • Strong technical and numerical skills developed through your educational background, with a solid understanding of fire dynamics, heat transfer, and smoke behavior in confined spaces.
  • Proficient in 1D design tools such as IDA for Road and SES for rail applications.
  • Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics modeling and visualization tools such as FDS, Pyrosis, and Smoke view.
  • Knowledge of Movement Modeling Analysis for evacuation and crowd simulations using computational tools like Pathfinder.
  • Current knowledge of applicable legislation and standards in tunnel ventilation design.
  • Ability to demonstrate technical expertise and provide mentorship to graduate and early-career professionals.
