Job Title: Academic English Mentor

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Academic English Mentor to join our team at R&V Group Ltd. As an Academic English Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting students with sensory learning needs to develop their communication and interaction skills.

About the Role:

This is a term-time role that requires a teacher or educator with experience of working with sensory learners. You will work closely with a skilled and experienced team of student support workers, teachers, tutors, and learning support colleagues to provide a highly personalised learning experience for our students.

Our pathways are designed to support students in making progress both educationally and in self-advocacy, confidence, self-belief, and resilience for life as young adults. You will work with students who have a bespoke package of health and support interventions, including physio and hydro therapy, speech and language therapy, and occupational therapy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students with sensory learning needs to develop their communication and interaction skills
  • Work closely with the student support team to provide a highly personalised learning experience
  • Develop and implement innovative and creative strategies to support student learning
  • Collaborate with teachers, tutors, and learning support colleagues to ensure a cohesive and effective learning environment
  • Have a good understanding of Total Communication and be able to develop excellence in one or more specific strategies, such as Makaton
Requirements:
  • Have or be willing to achieve L2 Certificate in Learning Support
  • Have a clear understanding of child protection and Adult Safeguarding
  • Be a competent user of commonly used software packages and be able to transfer skills to bespoke learning and/or communication support software
  • Have a positive, can-do approach and proven communication skills
  • Be able to work effectively within a team and offer support and leadership in learning and assessment
