Job Description

Job Title: Production Operations Manager

Location: Dagenham

Shift: Early / Late rotating shift (06:00-14:00 / 14:00-22:00)

Salary: £50,000-£60,000 plus shift uplift

About the Role:

The Tech Connect Group is seeking a highly skilled Production Operations Manager to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for managing a team of production operatives on a shift pattern within the production area, ensuring the smooth operation of our production facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Management: Monitor and drive team performance, quality, housekeeping, and adherence to Health & Safety and People Policies.
  • Communication: Conduct regular communication briefs, 121s, and manage team skills matrix and training needs.
  • Payroll and Confidential Documents: Oversee payroll approval and handle confidential documents.
  • Health & Safety: Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH, through risk assessments and managing accidents/near-misses.
  • Housekeeping and Compliance: Maintain high housekeeping standards, ensure compliance for audits, manage engineering concerns, and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Production Planning: Drive production plans, manage metrics, ensure parts supply, prioritize tasks, and oversee new product introductions.
  • Performance Improvement: Monitor and improve performance issues, manage resources and overtime, and reduce non-conformance costs.
  • Delegation: Deputize for the Production Manager and undertake other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Leadership Skills: Proactive in task prioritization to meet production targets and maximize productivity.
  • Lean/Continuous Improvement: Strong leadership skills with experience in lean/continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Kaizen, 5 Why analysis).
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Ability to use data to support decision-making, identify root causes, and implement effective responses.
  • Qualifications: ILM Level 3 or equivalent required; ideally with HSE certification (IOSH or NEBOSH).
  • Experience: Demonstrable experience managing teams of circa 30 in an automotive assembly setting; start-up experience is a plus.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and professional communicator, capable of conducting team briefs and holding team members accountable.
  • Quality Standards: Strong understanding of automotive quality standards and customer-focused quality practices.
  • ERP Systems: Experience with ERP systems, people-centric databases and proficient in Excel/Microsoft Office for KPI reporting.
  • Manufacturing Experience: Relevant automotive assembly manufacturing experience with knowledge of process flow, value stream mapping, takt times, and lean manufacturing.
  • Pressure Management: Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and take responsibility for meeting production targets.
