Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Rebellion Full time

We invite you to #JOINTHEREBELLION

For over three decades, we have been independently crafting and publishing remarkable video games across our various studios, established by Jason & Chris Kingsley. However, Rebellion transcends gaming; we also operate our own film and motion capture studio, develop board games, publish literature, and through 2000AD, release comics and graphic novels, including the iconic Judge Dredd.

Our operations span multiple locations in the UK, and we embrace a hybrid work model for this role, allowing flexibility in both work hours and onsite presence. We prioritize work-life balance and are open to discussing how we can accommodate your preferences.

We are seeking a skilled Lead Technical Art Specialist to become a vital part of our innovative Technical Art team, contributing to an array of exciting unannounced projects in development. This includes Project Archipelago, an exhilarating battle royale experience, along with opportunities to engage in other undisclosed titles, such as a dark sci-fi shooter. Additionally, our original IP, Atomfall, is slated for release in the near future.

As a Lead Technical Art Specialist, your responsibilities will include researching and devising solutions to enhance the art asset pipeline, as well as collaborating on the development of technical art features and their implementation within our proprietary engine. You will partner with artists and programmers to create 3D art and animate it within the engine, assess creative processes, and pinpoint areas for improvement to ensure our games remain at the forefront of industry standards.

Your influence will be crucial in shaping workflows that promote quality and efficiency in art production, while mentoring the art team in the creation and optimization of assets for our AAA titles. This role presents a unique opportunity to impact the technical artistry of Rebellion's future endeavors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enhance and refine existing art workflows and methodologies.
  • Identify inefficiencies in art creation processes and propose effective solutions.
  • Design and implement new tools for pipeline optimization to facilitate content creation.
  • Guide artists in adopting new techniques and best practices for content creation and optimization.
  • Develop and enhance technical documentation and tutorials for our tools.
  • Analyze assets and areas for optimization through performance profiling.

Essential Qualifications:

  • In-depth understanding of art creation workflows.
  • Strong grasp of art fundamentals, including composition.
  • Extensive experience with Maya, Blender, or 3DS Max.
  • Solid understanding of runtime performance implications and content optimization.
  • Familiarity with procedural content creation tools is advantageous.
  • Experience with photogrammetry is a plus.
  • Prior experience with Adobe Substance Automation Toolkit is beneficial.

Benefits:

We provide a comprehensive benefits package for our team, which includes:

  • 26 days of vacation plus bank holidays (increasing with service at 5 years).
  • Private medical insurance and healthcare cash plan, including dental and vision coverage.
  • Life assurance, income protection, and critical illness cover.
  • Enhanced family leave policies.
  • Interest-free, tax-free loans.
  • Enhanced pension scheme.
  • Employee Assistance Program offering mental health and wellbeing support.
  • And much more, including a variety of discounts, perks, and social events.

About Us:

At Rebellion, we take pride in our open, friendly, and creative environment. We are passionate about our work and enjoy the process. As a significant indie developer, we possess complete creative freedom over our titles, allowing us to explore a diverse range of projects across all major platforms.

Our unique size, stability, and the breadth of in-house expertise across various industries set Rebellion apart. We celebrate our distinctive approach as a cornerstone of our success. We cultivate an inclusive culture that encourages individuality, creativity, and talent. We are committed to supporting you in achieving your best work while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Our work environment is friendly, creative, and relaxed, with well-managed projects and a wide array of benefits and development opportunities to ensure your physical and mental well-being.

We actively seek to build a diverse team and continue to enhance our culture of growth and inclusion. Rebellion fosters innovation in all areas, and we look forward to learning how you can contribute to our progress. We welcome individuals from all backgrounds, cultures, genders, ethnicities, neurodiversity, and beyond, as a representative team leads to better products.

If you are interested in joining Rebellion but this role does not align with your skills, we are hiring for various positions across the studio and are always open to speculative applications through our website.
