Job Overview:

As part of this mission, the Library Specialist plays a crucial role in managing the daily functions of the campus library. This pivotal position leads the public service team, delivering essential circulation services, addressing technology inquiries, overseeing the information desk, and engaging with students and faculty both in-person and virtually.

The Library Specialist is responsible for coordinating the circulation of library materials and ensuring the integrity of the library's collections. This role involves recruiting, training, and supervising student assistants, as well as contributing to the professional development of team members. The Specialist gathers data on library usage, updates operational documentation, and provides insights to enhance library services that support student achievement. Collaboration with the library director and librarians is essential for planning, executing, and promoting library programs, engagement initiatives, and instructional workshops. The Specialist may also support broader college activities as needed, with occasional evening or weekend commitments.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience in a public-facing role within a library, archive, or museum setting.
  • Strong dedication to delivering exceptional customer service to a diverse college community.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively, efficiently, and independently in a technologically advanced and team-oriented environment, with minimal oversight.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Adaptability to change.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in community colleges, potentially as a former community college student.
  • Familiarity with academic libraries and automated library systems such as Alma, OCLC, LibGuides, and remote work tools.
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
