Job Overview:

As part of this commitment, the Library Specialist plays a crucial role in managing the daily functions of the campus library. This pivotal position leads the public service team, delivering essential circulation services, addressing technology inquiries, overseeing the information desk, and engaging with students and faculty both in-person and virtually.

The Library Specialist is responsible for coordinating the circulation of library resources and ensuring the integrity of the library's collections. This role involves recruiting, training, and supervising student assistants, as well as contributing to the professional development of other team members. The Specialist gathers data on library usage, updates procedural documentation, and offers insights to enhance library services aimed at promoting student success. Collaboration with the library director and librarians is essential for planning, executing, and marketing library programs, engagement initiatives, and instructional workshops. Additionally, the Specialist supports broader college activities as needed, with some evening or weekend work potentially required.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience in public service roles within libraries, archives, or museums.
  • Strong dedication to providing exceptional customer service to a diverse college community.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a technology-driven, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Openness to change and adaptability.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in community colleges, potentially as a former community college student.
  • Familiarity with academic libraries and automated library systems such as Alma, OCLC, and LibGuides.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
