Manager of Continuous Improvement and Maintenance Excellence


Pertemps Telford is seeking a dedicated leader for the role of Continuous Improvement and Maintenance Excellence Manager.


The primary responsibility of this position is to uphold and enhance the integrity of production and quality systems through effective management of machinery, equipment, processes, and personnel that contribute to business value.

You will also be tasked with delivering cost-efficient asset management through the execution of maintenance excellence initiatives.


Working Hours:

Monday to Friday | 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM with a 1-hour lunch break | Additional hours may be necessary based on business requirements.


Compensation:
£50,000 per annum, dependent on experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and establish critical engineering processes aligned with the Engineering Road Map.
  • Proactively develop a cost-effective maintenance program to meet site demands for safety, quality, and performance.
  • Plan, enhance, and execute maintenance strategies for site equipment to boost reliability.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge and a proven track record in developing and implementing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Drive the people agenda, focusing on talent development and ensuring team members possess the necessary competencies and behaviors.
  • Analyze operational failures and lost production, providing recommendations and implementing solutions to enhance systems, standard work, and processes.
  • Lead and implement proactive maintenance, reliability, production excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Exhibit deep knowledge of operational excellence, coaching teams on the application of principles and tools.
  • Support the integration of smart factory software to enhance reliability and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Communicate effectively regarding the status of production lines and equipment based on OEE metrics.
  • Lead, coach, and guide teams to ensure compliance with company and statutory requirements.
  • Facilitate annual Criticality Matrix reviews.
  • Drive the implementation of the Inventory Management Plan.
  • Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Promote the use of root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques such as RCA, 5 Whys, and DMAIC.
  • Foster a genuine continuous improvement culture within the department.
  • Support the department's 5S plan.
  • Drive and support reliability-centered maintenance and Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) activities.
  • Provide leadership and development opportunities for the engineering team.
  • Motivate the engineering team through effective leadership and coaching.
  • Support the implementation of maintenance excellence initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to planned maintenance schedules through effective resource management.
  • Analyze CMMS data to assist in forward planning and identify opportunities for equipment enhancements.

Required Skills:

  • Experience collaborating with contractors, suppliers, and technical staff to troubleshoot and resolve root cause issues of nonconformities.
  • Proficient in planning engineering activities by establishing priorities, scheduling, assigning work, and maintaining regular communication with stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) programs, Mainsaver PM, and Office 365.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Significant experience in leading and developing teams.
  • Familiarity with quality standards and the impact of incidents on quality.
  • Effective team player, influencer, and communicator.
  • High levels of enthusiasm and passion for the role.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Recognized Engineering Apprenticeship or an ONC/HNC or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical disciplines, or a degree in a related field.
  • If not, a minimum Level 3 C&G with at least 5 years of experience in a similar industry.
  • Experience in a maintenance environment.
  • Strong decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload effectively.
  • Capacity to work under pressure.
