Role Overview:

As a pivotal member of our team, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with scientists, developers, engineers, and technical staff to identify innovative ideas, assess their eligibility for patent protection, and draft and manage patent applications on a global scale.
  • Ensure timely and cost-efficient progression of patent applications towards approval.
  • Assist in the commercialization of intellectual property, manage litigation, oversee post-grant legal processes, resolve IP disputes, and facilitate negotiations.
  • Shape the patent strategy and procedures to effectively manage BT Group's international patent portfolio.
  • Provide guidance to BT colleagues on various intellectual property matters that influence business decisions.
  • Mentor fellow patent attorneys at BT to enhance their understanding of IP law and practices.
  • Promote awareness of the business implications of intellectual property within BT.

Essential Qualifications:

  • STEM graduate with an advanced degree in STEM and/or Intellectual Property Law.
  • Qualified as a UK and European Patent Attorney.
  • Possess Rights of Representation before UK, European, and Unified Patent Court authorities.
  • Demonstrated experience in patent drafting and prosecution.
  • Ability to comprehend the work conducted by BT's research, development, engineering, and technical teams.
  • Experience in litigation, post-grant legal procedures, IP disputes, or negotiations.
  • Capability to influence the patent strategy of a multinational corporation.
