Job Summary

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is seeking a Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine to join our team. As a key member of our department, you will play a vital role in shaping the development of our well-established unit and supporting the East of England CF network and regional respiratory services.

Main Duties

The successful appointee will provide inpatient and outpatient care for patients with respiratory disease. You will be responsible for managing inpatients and outpatients with respiratory conditions or CF, and will have the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care.

Person Specification

We are looking for a Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine who has:

  • Full GMC
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • On the specialist register (CCT in paediatrics OR Equivalent) at or within 6 months of the AAC

Desirable qualifications include a higher degree such as MD, MSc or PhD, and CCT in respiratory paediatrics.

Experience

We are looking for a Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine who has:

  • Applicants who are Nationals from another European country or elsewhere overseas would have to show equivalence to the 5 years training period in the National Health Service required for the specialty.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and commitment to a career in paediatric respiratory medicine.
  • 2 years paediatric respiratory training or experience in a tertiary centre (candidates with GRID/SPIN or equivalent are encouraged to apply).
  • Competent at management of inpatients and outpatients with respiratory conditions or CF
  • EPLS or APLS certification
  • Training to level 3 safeguarding and experience of safeguarding at Specialist Registrar or Consultant level.

Desirable experience includes previous experience at consultant level, expertise in CF, recent experience with CFTR modulating therapy, and experience in sleep studies.

Aptitudes

We are looking for a Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine who has:

  • Good communicator
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Enthusiasm for service development and teaching

Desirable aptitudes include previous responsibility for service improvement, management skills, and leadership potential.

Communication Skills

We are looking for a Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine who has:

  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to present effectively to an audience
Teaching

We are looking for a Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine who has:

  • Experience of formal and on the job clinical teaching
  • Enthusiasm to teach clinical skills

Desirable teaching qualifications include a recognised postgraduate course in teaching/training (T5 or similar), post graduate qualification in teaching (PGCert or similar), and commitment to under/postgraduate and multidisciplinary teaching & training.

Clinical Governance

We are looking for a Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine who has:

  • Able to deliver high quality paediatric care
  • Knowledge and experience of clinical audit
  • Logical, analytical, and self-critical approach to clinical practice

Desirable clinical governance qualifications include expertise in Risk Management.

Interests

We are looking for a Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine who has:

  • Ability and commitment to practice.
  • Evidence-based medicine.
  • Commitment to delivering high quality

Desirable interests include a flexible outlook on working hours, living within a 15-mile radius of the base Trust or 30 minutes travelling time when on call, and consultant led care in paediatric respiratory medicine and CF.

Circumstances

We are looking for a Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine who has:

  • Flexible outlook on working hours
