Overview of the Role

The College is looking to recruit a Leisure Operations Apprentice to join our dynamic team.

Reporting To: Head of Sports and Science Facilities

Role Responsibilities

The Leisure Operations Apprentice will engage in various operational tasks, including:

  • Assisting with the opening and closing procedures of the facility
  • Conducting routine maintenance of equipment
  • Ensuring cleanliness and safety within the environment
  • Facilitating programmed activities and services for users

This apprenticeship spans 18 months and offers the chance to cultivate skills across diverse activities provided by the centre. The role encompasses five primary areas:

  • Leisure and fitness operations
  • Lifeguard responsibilities
  • Swimming instruction
  • Gym training
  • Leading group sessions

Training and Qualifications

Comprehensive training will be provided, leading to the potential achievement of nationally recognized qualifications, including:

  • Swim England's Level 1 and 2 Teaching Swimming or a STA Level 1 and 2 Certificate in Teaching Swimming
  • A Level 2 Certificate in Fitness or Gym Instruction from recognized awarding bodies
  • A Level 3 Certificate in First Aid
  • Functional Skills in English & Maths (Level 1 and 2), if necessary

Candidate Profile

  • Interest or background in swimming or sports
  • Highly organized with effective time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Motivated to learn and acquire new qualifications
  • Understanding of equalities, diversity, and inclusion in a leisure context

Swimming Test Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate the following swimming capabilities:

  • Jump or dive into deep water
  • Swim 50 meters in under 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 meters continuously on front and back in deep water
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Surface dive to the pool floor
  • Exit the pool unaided without assistance

Work Schedule

The role requires a commitment of 30 hours per week, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as directed.

Compensation

The starting salary is £8.00 per hour for the first 12 months, transitioning to National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage based on age thereafter.
