Job Overview

Senior Quantity Surveyor - We are seeking a skilled Senior Quantity Surveyor to enhance our client's reputable team. Our client specializes in the Civil Engineering sector, focusing on minor works related to Railway, Infrastructure, Highways, and Civil projects. This pivotal role is essential as the company aims to significantly increase its turnover, targeting £30 million in the upcoming year.

The ideal candidate will come from a similarly sized family-run business and possess experience managing diverse, fast-paced projects. A minimum of 5 years' experience is essential, along with a strong drive for professional growth within a rapidly expanding organization. Proficiency in Change Management, as well as experience with NEC and JCT contracts, is necessary, alongside the capability to oversee projects valued up to £500,000.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive salary up to £70,000
  • 5% pension contribution with 4% from the employee
  • Discretionary bonus potential of up to 15%
  • Car allowance of £6,000
  • Fuel card provision
  • Generous holiday entitlement of 28 days, inclusive of Bank Holidays, increasing to 33 days
  • Flexible hybrid working arrangements

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee commercial management on projects, ensuring effective cost and value management to achieve tender margins
  • Manage commercial aspects of Reactive and Planned Maintenance contracts within the Rail sector
  • Handle all commercial and contractual issues across multiple projects
  • Support Estimating and Operations teams in preparing bid submissions
  • Conduct forecasting and cost/value reporting
  • Identify suppliers and subcontractors, and manage the tendering process
  • Procure resources to align with project timelines and tender requirements
  • Manage supply chain operations and ensure timely payments to maintain project schedules
  • Mentor and develop junior team members

Qualifications and Skills

  • Higher-level qualification (HNC or Degree) in Quantity Surveying
  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial experience, ideally with a focus on infrastructure projects in the construction industry, particularly in Rail and Highways
  • Strong functional and technical skills relevant to Quantity Surveying
  • Knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts
  • Experience in cost management and change management
  • A collaborative team player, capable of working effectively with others to achieve objectives
  • Proficient problem solver with decision-making abilities that enhance organizational effectiveness
  • Possession of a full UK driving license
