About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Linux Systems Engineering Lead to join our team at Sopra Steria. As a key member of our Infrastructure team, you will be responsible for leading a team of Linux engineers and providing technical ownership of our Linux estate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Manage incidents, requests, and changes within the Linux team, and conduct regular 1-2-1 meetings with team members to identify training requirements.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with our team to design, build, and maintain mission-critical systems.
  • Documentation: Maintain and produce user documentation to facilitate knowledge sharing and skills development.
  • Representation: Represent the team at key ITIL process touch points, including change advisory boards, problem management, technical design authority, and major incident management.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide hands-on engineering support and expertise to complex technical activities, such as root cause analysis, troubleshooting, project recovery/remediation plans, and technical risk assessments.
  • Infrastructure Maintenance: Work with engineers to ensure that infrastructure is maintained with the latest firmware and software requirements.
Requirements
  • Ansible Automation Platform: Working experience in Ansible Automation Platform version 2.
  • Linux Operating Systems: Strong knowledge of Linux Operating Systems, such as RedHat Enterprise Linux and derivatives (6, 7, 8, and 9).
  • Ansible and Git: Solid understanding or working with Ansible and Git (command line, Gitlab, or bitbucket).
  • Virtualisation: Working knowledge of Virtualisation, such as VMware ESXi 7.x.
  • Red Hat Satellite: Demonstrable experience of working with Red Hat Satellite 6 and above.
  • Unix Storage Filesystems: Knowledge of Unix Storage filesystems and access protocols (XFS/NFS), specifically LVM2.
Desirable Skills
  • Atlassian Tools: Working knowledge of Atlassian tools, such as Confluence and Jira.
  • HPE Storage Technologies: Knowledge of HPE Storage Technologies (FC/iSCSI/NFS protocols).
  • RHCSA Certification: RHCSA certification on RedHat.
