About the Position

Balfour Beatty is seeking a skilled Legal Advisor to become part of our dynamic team.

In this role, you will collaborate with the UK business-facing legal team, providing essential legal services to support Balfour Beatty through professional guidance, practical advice, and compliance support.

This position is available on a full-time basis, but we are open to discussing part-time arrangements to accommodate the best talent.

Key Responsibilities

Project Lifecycle Management
Oversee all phases of our construction projects, including:
- Reviewing and negotiating construction contracts and associated agreements.
- Advising on contract administration matters such as extensions of time and claims for loss and expense.
- Providing guidance on dispute management and resolution strategies.
- Independently analyze and resolve issues within established protocols.

Stakeholder Engagement
Develop and sustain relationships with management and staff to ensure the UK Legal team meets business needs.
- Under the guidance of senior legal personnel, engage and manage external law firms for specific legal matters.

Comprehensive Legal Support
Conduct contract evaluations in line with UK policies and offer timely, pragmatic advice.
- Assist UK operations in negotiating and drafting contractual terms with clients, partners, and suppliers.
- Support the formation and negotiation of joint ventures, consortium agreements, and other critical business documents requiring legal input.

Dispute Resolution
Provide legal assistance for various dispute management and resolution processes.
- Participate in adjudications or alternative dispute resolution as directed, coordinating with external law firms for mediation, litigation, or arbitration as necessary.

Guarantees and Warranties
Review and advise on the wording of bonds, guarantees, and warranties according to UK and Balfour Beatty Group policies.
- Collaborate with commercial and legal teams to secure necessary bonds and guarantees.

Training and Development
Deliver targeted legal training for the legal team and business units.
- Stay informed about new legislation and maintain personal professional development.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified solicitor or barrister with a minimum of two years of post-qualification experience; less experienced candidates with relevant skills may be considered.
- Familiarity with the construction and infrastructure sectors is advantageous.
