The University of Manchester, Faculty of Science and Engineering, is seeking to appoint five individuals with a track record in supporting research projects, particularly those leading to impact, and experience in supporting the development, preparation, and submission of research proposals, to take up the roles of Research Development Officers (Funding and Impact).

The roles will involve flexibility between the focus areas of Research Impact and Research Funding. The post-holders will be expected to support the Faculty in strategically developing its research income as follows:

  • Impact-focussed Research Development Officers: Assisting and training academic colleagues to identify, embed, and record impact plans and objectives in research proposals, industrial contracts, and international collaborations.
  • Funding-focussed Research Development Officers: Drafting non-technical and institutional content for proposals to ensure alignment with funder requirements, facilitating internal and external collaborative research priority areas, and exploiting funding intelligence to maximize the Faculty's benefits from funding opportunities.

The successful candidate should have demonstrable experience in supporting research development, preparation/submission of research proposals (particularly aspects related to developing the proposal itself) and/or research impact, ability to work with a wide range of academic colleagues, and excellent analytical and communication skills.

This role will be based within the Research Development and Innovation team in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The team consists of the Faculty's Business Engagement, Research Strategy, Research Impact, and Internationalisation functions.
