Position Overview

We are seeking to recruit a Consultant in Emergency Medicine to join our dedicated team within the Emergency Departments at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust. This role is pivotal in our ongoing workforce transformation initiative.

Our consultants have the flexibility to choose between a 10 or 12 PA job plan (or 9DCC/3SPA), which incorporates a dynamic shift schedule from 08:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and 8 hours during weekends. We are committed to accommodating individual preferences, including fixed weekdays off or part-time opportunities whenever feasible.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in our newly established medical school in east Kent, which commenced operations in 2020, providing 100 training placements annually. We encourage applicants interested in pursuing joint academic and clinical roles, as we prioritize the professional development of our consultant team. This includes support for postgraduate qualifications such as MBA or MSc, as well as opportunities for academic research.

Our Emergency Medicine consultants are backed by a robust EM workforce, comprising 25 Middle Grade/Speciality Doctors, along with higher trainees and ACCS posts. We are dedicated to nurturing our junior workforce through special interest roles, a CESR completion pathway, and a cohort of trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners, all supported by our Acute Care Nurse Consultants.

Required Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration
  • FRCEM or equivalent
  • CCT/CESR Specialist Registration or eligibility within 6 months of the interview
  • Minimum English Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent), ILETS, or graduate of a UK Medical School
