Overview

The organization seeks to appoint a seasoned Data Protection Manager (DPM) to fulfill its responsibilities under the European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The appointed DPM will oversee compliance and data handling practices within the organization to ensure adherence to the relevant GDPR requirements. Key responsibilities will include staff training, conducting data protection impact assessments, and performing internal audits. The DPM will also act as the primary liaison for supervisory authorities and individuals whose data is processed by the organization.

Key Responsibilities

In this position, you will collaborate closely with the Legal, Compliance, Public Policy, and Information Security teams to formulate and enforce policies and standards that align with GDPR compliance.

Your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Establishing measures and a privacy governance framework to manage data usage in accordance with the GDPR, which includes creating templates for data collection, assisting with data mapping, and conducting vendor management reviews.
  • Engaging with key internal stakeholders to review projects and associated data to ensure compliance with local data privacy regulations, and, when necessary, conducting and advising on privacy impact assessments.
  • Acting as the primary contact and liaison for the EEA Data Protection Authorities regarding all matters related to data protection under the GDPR.
  • Being the main point of contact for inquiries within the organization.
  • Reviewing vendor agreements (including Model Clauses) and necessary consents to implement projects in collaboration with the firm's Procurement and Information Security teams, ensuring compliance with local regulatory filing requirements.

Qualifications

Possess at least one Data Protection and/or Privacy certification, such as CIPP, CIPT, ISEB, etc.

Experience Requirements

  • Post-qualification experience is essential.
  • Familiarity with global and EU data privacy laws is required.
  • Experience in compliance, legal, audit, and/or risk functions, with recent exposure to privacy compliance.
  • Proven experience in developing policy and compliance training.
  • Background in a regulated industry is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In-depth understanding of EU data privacy and protection regulations, along with a solid grasp of other significant privacy frameworks and evolving global legislation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of information technology and data management systems is necessary. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for effective interaction with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience in a large, international organization is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrate leadership, and drive change.
  • Exceptional writing and presentation skills are required.
