Position Overview

INTRODUCTION TO OUR FINANCING TEAM //

We are pleased to present an exceptional opportunity for a skilled, technically proficient, and engaging professional to join us as an Associate within our Financing Team. This team is composed of 19 partners and approximately 60 associates.

Recognized as a premier financing law firm, we represent a diverse clientele including public and private corporations, financial institutions, sponsors, credit funds, governments, and sovereign entities. Our multi-disciplinary approach allows our attorneys to provide counsel on a wide array of transactions.

The Financing Team encompasses various sub-specialties, including:

  • Banking (covering loan and acquisition financing, leasing, and asset financing)
  • Debt Capital Markets (including eurobonds, convertible bonds, high yield bonds, hybrid bonds, private placements, and structured notes)
  • Derivatives
  • Securitisation & Structured Finance
  • Infrastructure, Energy, and Natural Resources (focusing on project financing)
  • Restructuring & Insolvency

Each sub-specialty is led by dedicated Partner sub-specialty Heads and supported by specialized Professional Support Lawyers (PSLs), serving as focal points for knowledge sharing, training, and business development initiatives, including client engagement and networking events. This structure is designed to provide our lawyers with the flexibility to concentrate on areas of interest while maintaining a comprehensive practice aligned with our multi-disciplinary ethos.

Our financing attorneys have the opportunity to engage in a broad spectrum of financing transactions, with an expectation that each lawyer will work across at least two or three sub-specialties. This diverse experience equips our financing attorneys with the adaptability to navigate complex legal challenges and the capability to devise innovative structures and solutions tailored to our clients' requirements.

GLOBAL OPPORTUNITIES

The majority of the work conducted within the Financing Team is of an international nature.

Many of our clients operate globally, and our domestic client base often has significant international interests.

Our Best Friends network ensures that we and our clients have access to top-tier international legal counsel, enabling us to engage in a substantial volume of intriguing cross-border financing projects.

English law frequently plays a central role in our matters, allowing us to take on a pivotal role in project managing international advisors and integrating all components of the matter.

WHAT WE SEEK //

We are in search of a highly motivated and adaptable individual to join our Financing Team, with a particular emphasis on our Infrastructure, Energy, and Natural Resources sub-specialty. While we expect the candidate to possess a solid foundation in general financing and to have familiarity with various financing products and transactions, the focus will be on project financing and related projects.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES //

The primary responsibilities associated with this role are outlined below, with the possibility of additional tasks:

  • Drafting, reviewing, and modifying the legal and commercial components of documentation – we encourage our associates to engage in all facets of a project rather than being confined to specific workstreams.
  • Providing counsel on project financing arrangements, including structuring, facility documentation, security arrangements, intercreditor arrangements, hedging, equity support arrangements, direct agreements, and their intersection with all relevant project and shareholder documentation across various sectors, including oil and gas, renewables (wind, solar, hydrogen, and CCUS), infrastructure, and natural resources.
  • Advising on the bankability aspects of project documents and structures.
  • Consulting on subsidy arrangements (including Contracts for Difference) that support renewable projects and being prepared to familiarize oneself with new subsidy frameworks for emerging technologies.
  • Being ready to advise on corporate and commercial dimensions of projects as necessary and collaborating with commercial and corporate teams as required.
  • Building professional relationships with clients and participating in business development initiatives and activities.
  • Acquiring specialized knowledge in emerging technologies (such as hydrogen and CCUS) and contributing to training efforts.
  • Managing and overseeing the work of others, including associates and trainees as needed.
  • Being open to working on other types of financing arrangements as dictated by client needs.

We do not expect candidates to have experience in all areas mentioned above. A successful candidate should demonstrate a keen interest in the infrastructure, energy, and natural resources sectors, a willingness to develop expertise across some or all of these areas, and maintain a diverse workload, supported by our exceptional training and knowledge resources.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS //

Applicants for this position must possess:

  • An appropriate level of post-qualification experience (anticipated between 2-4 years' PQE in a City, major regional, or leading international firm).
  • Broad exposure to high-value and/or complex transactions with a significant level of responsibility.
  • A desire and ability to cultivate expertise across a range of financing practice areas.
  • Proficiency in drafting, advising, and negotiating complex transactions.
  • Demonstrable legal and commercial acumen.
  • A strong academic background (equivalent to a high 2.1 degree or better) and a proven high level of analytical skills.
  • Excellent client relationship management skills.
  • Strong efficiency and transaction management capabilities.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, intellectually stimulating environment.
  • Resilience under pressure, with the capacity to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Experience in engaging in complex negotiations.
  • A high standard of professionalism and integrity, demonstrating the utmost ethical standards.
  • Experience working within a diverse team while promoting an inclusive team culture.
