Position Overview

We are seeking to appoint a Band 6 Lead Employee Relations Consultant to join our dynamic and specialized Employee Relations team within a prominent healthcare institution. The Trust's People Directorate and ER team are undergoing a transformation to enhance the quality of service provided to our patients and stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be expected to operate independently with minimal oversight, utilizing their initiative to deliver high-quality work consistently. Additionally, this role includes the responsibility of supervising a Band 5 Employee Relations Consultant.

Required Qualifications and Skills

The following qualifications, skills, and attributes are essential for this pivotal role:

  • CIPD Level 5 membership
  • Comprehensive understanding of Employment Law and HR best practices
  • Familiarity with WRES/WDES and Just Culture principles
  • Expertise in employee relations best practice frameworks
  • Strong interest and prior experience in HR policy formulation and development
  • Experience collaborating in a unionized setting and fostering relationships with Staff Side representatives
  • Ability to effectively advocate for a position in the face of challenges and construct a persuasive argument
  • Self-driven with the capacity to deliver results promptly
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Proactive and results-oriented
  • Current CIPD membership and relevant HR experience are mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

The postholder will report to the ER Manager and Head of Employee Relations, providing a professional, high-quality, and comprehensive HR service to designated divisions and corporate functions.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Advising and supporting managers on all employee relations matters, including disciplinary procedures, capability assessments, and adherence to Trust policies.
  • Coaching and guiding managers and staff to pursue early informal resolutions to employee relations cases.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely data entry into various systems and spreadsheets for effective reporting.
  • Being accountable for personal performance and the performance of the designated area.

Job Responsibilities

Employee Relations

Provide guidance and support to managers in interpreting and applying the Trust's disciplinary, early resolution, capability, and sickness procedures, ensuring compliance with these protocols. Assist managers in addressing attendance issues and Occupational Health referrals while collaborating closely with Occupational Health.

Job Matching

Evaluate and match job descriptions in accordance with the Agenda for Change job matching process and regulations, ensuring accurate and timely documentation of job matching details.

Data Management

Accurately and promptly enter employee relations data into the Selenity (ER Tracker) system, the Electronic Staff Record (ESR), and internal spreadsheets. Generate reports from these systems and be accountable for the accuracy of the reports and any trends identified.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience
  • CIPD Associate Membership (Level 5)
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development

Knowledge

Essential

  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices in employment law, data protection, and freedom of information
  • Understanding of Agenda for Change terms and conditions of employment
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with all staff levels, both verbally and in writing

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working at an advisory level in a unionized organization with a large and diverse workforce, providing professional guidance to managers
  • Experience in policy development and implementation
