GLD operates as a non-ministerial government department under the sponsorship of the Attorney General, led by the Treasury Solicitor. With nearly 3000 employees, including over 2000 legal professionals, our offices span across various locations, both domestically and internationally. We specialize in areas such as Litigation, Employment Law, and Commercial Law, while also advising numerous Government Departments on their policies and services.
In addition to our legal services, GLD relies on essential corporate functions that ensure the department runs smoothly and efficiently. These functions include Strategy, Human Resources, Finance, Digital, Data and Technology, Communications, Security, and Project Delivery.

Role Description
The Strategy, People and Culture (SPC) Division within GLD is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our HR Operations Team. This role is pivotal in managing payroll, pensions, and employee benefits, serving as a subject matter expert in these areas.
The HR Operations Team provides comprehensive HR, payroll, and pension services to GLD, the Attorney General’s Office, and the Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate. We are the primary point of contact for related inquiries, addressing up to 2000 queries monthly through our service channels.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Management (Approximately 50% of Role)
- Oversee payroll calculations and ensure timely processing of payroll changes.
- Provide guidance to the Employee Services Team on payroll-related queries.
- Investigate and rectify discrepancies in payroll reports.
- Communicate payroll schedules and updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Support the implementation of annual pay adjustments and resolve complex payroll issues.
Pension Administration (Approximately 25% of Role)
- Ensure compliance with Civil Service Pension Scheme responsibilities.
- Manage relationships with pension service providers and address complex pension inquiries.
- Maintain up-to-date pension guidance and communicate benefits to employees.
Employee Benefits Management (Approximately 25% of Role)
- Oversee the administration of employee benefit programs and promote these offerings to staff.
- Manage salary sacrifice schemes and coordinate with stakeholders for efficient processing.
Line Management
Supervise the Pensions and Employee Benefits Advisor, ensuring effective team performance.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a candidate who possesses:
- Extensive knowledge of payroll processes and legislation.
- Experience in managing pension schemes and resolving related queries.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Excel.
- Excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written.
