Job Summary:
The Business Rates Officer will provide an efficient service to our business community and contribute to the administration of billing, collection, and recovery of Business Rates in accordance with statutory provisions and local procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately determine all correct liabilities, valuation changes, and ensure all charges, including transitional relief, are correct and in accordance with the appropriate regulations, legislation, and guidance.
- Ensure all information received is correct and identify and report any cases of fraud.
- Carry out all day-to-day administrative activities in relation to applying the correct reliefs where appropriate and apply all exemptions as required.
- Respond to business ratepayers' correspondence in a timely manner and in accordance with set KPIs and performance standards.
- Undertake all necessary duties for the efficient collection and recovery of Business Rates, liaising with enforcement agencies and other Council departments as required.
- Undertake and evidence appropriate checks and respond to queries in accordance with the relevant legislation and requirements of the service.
- Assist with any other duties required in the collection and administration of Business Rates, including any statutory returns when required.
