Business Rates Officer Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Business Rates Officer to join our team at Hull City Council. As a Business Rates Officer, you will play a crucial role in providing an efficient service to our business community and ensuring the accurate determination of liabilities and charges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately determine all correct liabilities, valuation changes, and ensure all charges, including transitional relief, are correct and in accordance with regulations, legislation, and guidance.
  • Ensure all information received is correct and identify and report any cases of fraud.
  • Carry out day-to-day administrative activities in relation to applying the correct reliefs and exemptions.
  • Respond to ratepayers' correspondence in a timely manner and in accordance with set KPIs and performance standards.
  • Undertake duties for the efficient collection and recovery of Business Rates, liaising with enforcement agencies and other Council departments as required.
  • Undertake checks and respond to queries in accordance with relevant legislation and requirements.
  • Assist with other duties required in the collection and administration of Business Rates, including statutory returns when required.
