Job Title: Apprentice Quality Engineer

At Owen Daniels Consultancy Ltd, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Apprentice Quality Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our quality assurance team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our forged products meet the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Quality Control and Assurance:
    1. Develop and implement quality control systems for forge production, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer specifications.
    2. Perform inspections and tests on forged parts and materials, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
    3. Collaborate with production teams to ensure consistent quality across all manufacturing stages, from raw material sourcing to final product delivery.
  2. Process Improvement:
    1. Analyze production processes and identify opportunities for improvement to enhance product quality and reduce defects.
    2. Lead root cause analysis for non-conforming products and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
    3. Work closely with the engineering and operations teams to optimize forging techniques, heat treatment processes, and material selection.
  3. Documentation and Reporting:
    1. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of all quality-related activities, including inspection reports, testing results, and corrective actions.
    2. Prepare and present detailed reports on quality metrics, issues, and trends to management.
    3. Ensure compliance with ISO standards, AS9100, or other applicable certifications and regulatory requirements.
  4. Customer and Supplier Communication:
    1. Interface with customers and suppliers regarding quality issues, ensuring their requirements are met.
    2. Conduct audits of suppliers' processes to verify material and part conformity.
    3. Lead or participate in customer audits and quality reviews.
  5. Training and Development:
    1. Train production personnel on quality standards and best practices.
    2. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and quality awareness throughout the organization.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  2. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Quality Engineer in a manufacturing environment, preferably in forging or metalworking.
  3. Strong understanding of metallurgy, material properties, and heat treatment processes related to forging.
  4. Proficiency in quality tools such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and Six Sigma methodologies.
  5. Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, or IATF 16949.
  6. Experience using measurement and inspection tools, including CMMs, micrometers, calipers, and hardness testers.

Skills and Competencies:

  1. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  2. Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  3. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  5. Proficiency in quality management software and Microsoft Office suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Certifications such as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt.
  2. Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  3. Knowledge of forging industry standards, such as ASTM or SAE specifications.

Work Environment:

  1. Work is performed in both office and shop floor environments. Regular exposure to manufacturing settings, including noise, heat, and heavy machinery.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £33,238.00-£40,000.00 per year
