Job Overview

As an EHS Coordinator at Mitie, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our employees and clients. You will be responsible for overseeing third-party maintenance activities across our sites, providing guidance and support to our Facility Managers and operational teams to meet their QHSE objectives and targets.

Main Responsibilities

  • Embed health and safety best practices across the team, from management to shop floor.
  • Lead on programs of work and new initiatives in health and safety.
  • Manage a regular audit and reporting program, communicating performance across the organization.
  • Act as a key Health & Safety point of contact for the Mitie on-site team.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to ensure employees are competent in their HSE duties.
  • Develop arrangements to manage risks from contractors and third-party suppliers.
  • Proactively drive the Health & Safety agenda within the team, including near miss reporting and engagement of site safety champions.
  • Monitor changes in legislation and best practice to ensure compliance.
  • Investigate site incidents and accidents, identifying improvements for the future.
  • Build strong relationships with the central Mitie HSE team and engage with them on high-risk activities.
  • Regularly conduct Gemba walks to ensure a safe and working environment.
  • Manage and maintain the COSHH register.
  • Conduct assessments outside the competence of operational managers, such as Significant Risk, COSHH, and DSE assessments.
  • Ensure all relevant site files are up to date for all service lines.
  • Manage and maintain the Noise and Vibration registers for all equipment.
  • Manage and maintain the ladder registers for all equipment.
  • Periodically monitor sub-contractor safe systems of work.
  • Perform audits on permits and ensure Issuers and Receivers follow the correct procedures.
  • Monitor and progress Non-Injury Events (NIEs) with action owners.
  • Be trained to complete face fit testing.

Professional Qualifications and Experience

  • Safety and/or environmental bias in previous roles.
  • NEBOSH Certificate essential or equivalent level 3 qualification.
  • Kelvin Top-Set investigation.
  • ISO Internal Auditor.
  • Strong technical/engineering understanding in a manufacturing/pharmaceutical environment.
  • Able to demonstrate continuing professional development.
  • Evidence of practical audit/inspection experience.
  • Experience in delivery of QHSE.
  • Broad experience and expertise in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Experience in the Integrated Facilities Management sector, particularly Hard or Soft Services.
  • Detailed knowledge of risk assessment and management.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

  • Always follow Group and company policies and procedures.
  • Report any apparent deficiencies in systems of work or equipment that may result in failure of service delivery or risk to health and safety or the environment.
  • Use all work equipment and personal PPE properly and in accordance with training.
  • Report any issues or training needs to your Line manager and/or via your divisional incident reporting system.
