Position Overview

The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in the weekly MRCPsych educational sessions at least four times annually. These sessions, held on Wednesday afternoons, encompass case discussions, journal reviews, and expert-led instruction. Additionally, attendance at monthly multidisciplinary team (MDT) training on Friday afternoons is highly recommended.

The role includes opportunities for teaching and mentoring various members of the multidisciplinary team, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

Engagement in clinical audits is expected, along with the potential to partake in research initiatives.

The post holder will also be required to join the senior on-call rota on a pro-rata basis, currently set at 1 in 12. This position involves third-tier on-call responsibilities, covering general adult and later life psychiatry, with a category A payment structure. Given the infrequent nature of consultant contact and the rare necessity for out-of-hours hospital visits, arrangements for time off in lieu have not been established, although a new policy is in place should the need arise.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will provide medical leadership to the multidisciplinary team.

As the Responsible Clinician, the individual will have responsibilities under The Mental Health Act, including involvement in section 12 work, tribunal attendance, and section renewal meetings. The consultant will oversee 14 inpatients at Honeysuckle Lodge and provide urgent cover for Oak Lodge, which has consultant support for only one day.

Regular attendance at ward rounds during the week at designated times is required.

The consultant will also address any necessary reviews on the ward throughout the week.

Leading Care Programme Approach (CPA) meetings and actively participating in care planning and risk assessments are essential duties.

The post holder will take a lead role in capacity assessments and best interest meetings.

Occasionally, the consultant may be requested to conduct second opinion assessments within the rehabilitation division.
