The Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated professional to join our esteemed nephrology and transplantation unit. This role is pivotal within our acute haemodialysis department, which operates across multiple facilities.
Current Opening
We are currently looking for a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to oversee the acute haemodialysis area.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will possess:
- Significant experience in a renal healthcare environment.
- Proven skills in haemodialysis, with a strong background in this area.
- A teaching or assessor qualification.
- Exceptional communication abilities.
- Strong organizational capabilities.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- A Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) qualification or the ambition to achieve one.
- An Advanced Practice in Clinical Assessment (APACS) qualification or the desire to pursue it.
Main Responsibilities
The role includes:
- Developing and implementing specialized nursing care programs for a diverse patient population, while also providing support to their families.
- Leading a team of qualified nurses, support staff, and students.
- Regularly taking charge of the ward or department.
- Assisting the Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse in maintaining high standards of nursing care.
- Performing haemodialysis confidently, both on-site and at various external locations.

Qualifications
Essential Criteria
- Current registration with the NMC on part 1 of the register.
- Evidence of post-registration education relevant to the competencies required for this role.
- Completion of the national PEAP program for practice supervisors or an equivalent teaching and assessing qualification.
- NMP and APACS qualifications or willingness to undertake them.
Experience
Essential Criteria
- Extensive experience in caring for renal patients.
- Current and significant experience in haemodialysis.
Desirable Criteria
- Previous experience in a Band 6 role.
