About Our Organization

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is the regulatory body overseeing the private security sector. As an independent agency operating at arm's length from the Home Office, we report directly to the Home Secretary under the Private Security Industry Act 2001. Our mission is to enhance public safety through effective regulation and to collaborate with stakeholders to elevate standards within the industry.

Role Overview

In this pivotal role, you will be part of the strategy and scheme design team within Business Standards. This department is tasked with formulating, executing, and overseeing strategies aimed at elevating the operational standards of businesses within the private security sector.

We are initiating a program to implement our strategic vision, which includes augmenting our technical and expert resources to support our renewed strategy. Your expertise will be crucial in providing specialized knowledge that informs and shapes our strategic initiatives, particularly in the design and execution of a new business approval framework.

This position is dynamic and influential, placing you at the forefront of transformation within the private security industry. You will conduct comprehensive research and analysis to assist in establishing and defining standards for businesses, thereby enhancing public safety capabilities in the sector.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience in leading and managing technical research initiatives.
  • Ability to make informed decisions and influence strategic directions based on thorough research and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of various technical research methodologies that yield actionable insights for strategic decision-making.
  • Capability to derive conclusions from research findings and make sound recommendations in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Experience in managing relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to achieve research goals.
  • Proficiency in facilitating both individual and group discussions pertinent to research projects.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex data from diverse sources to varied audiences.
  • Experience in self-management and overseeing junior staff in a fast-paced setting, effectively handling multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with research and analysis tools, including survey design, PowerBI, and Excel.

Work Environment

This role is based at our Head Office in London, with a flexible work arrangement that includes 1-2 days in the office each week. Occasional travel within the UK may be necessary.
