About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Section Engineer to join our team at Liberty Steel Group. As a key member of our plant operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine and allocate engineering resources and materials to meet operational and engineering requirements.
  • Develop and implement planned maintenance and inspection schedules to meet statutory, safety, quality, and engineering requirements.
  • Provide technical and engineering expertise to production management and department engineers.
  • Ensure plant personnel and contractors operate within relevant internal policies and statutory health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Implement and maintain safety standards in the area, including safety procedures and documentation.
  • Monitor and control expenditure on spares, materials, and labor to stay within agreed budgets.
  • Identify and assist in preparing capital and revenue schemes to enhance engineering and production performance.
  • Develop and submit major maintenance proposals and schedules, ensuring implementation within agreed costs and timescales.
  • Organize and manage training and development of the multi-discipline engineering team and production personnel.
  • Lead and assist in project implementation of capital, revenue, and major maintenance schemes.
  • Negotiate contracts and control specialist contractors for maintenance and services.
  • Lead and coordinate investigations, identify root causes, and implement solutions to problems.
  • Monitor KPIs for the area of responsibility and implement corrective action as needed.
  • Manage and develop engineers and craft teams to satisfy business objectives.
Requirements
  • Performance-oriented professional with leadership skills to motivate a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to react swiftly and think ahead to develop and improve assets.
  • Experience in project management and strong analytical skills to analyze data and make informed decisions.
  • Previous background in plant engineering and maintenance, with a strong understanding of engineering principles and reliability-based maintenance.
  • Well-developed communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work with various stakeholders.
  • Understanding of risk management, health and safety legislation, and their application in a steelworks environment.
  • Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills, with a collaborative approach to finding practical solutions.
  • Experience with a CMMS (INFOR current system).

This is a Monday to Friday role, 8am-4pm, with a competitive salary and benefits package.
