About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Section Engineer to join our team at Liberty's Stocksbridge facility. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the engineering function within your area, engaging with your team and internal/external technical specialists to provide engineering input, and driving, monitoring, and maintaining the engineering blueprint.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering function within your area, ensuring optimal outcomes for the business.
  • Engage with your team and internal/external technical specialists to provide engineering input and support.
  • Drive, monitor, and maintain the engineering blueprint in accordance with change and design control procedures.
  • Develop and implement planned maintenance and inspection schedules to meet statutory, safety, quality, and engineering requirements.
  • Provide technical and engineering expertise to Production Management and Department Engineers.
  • Ensure plant, departmental personnel, and contractors operate within and comply with relevant internal policies and statutory Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation.
  • Monitor and control expenditure on spares, materials, and labor to keep within agreed budgets.
  • Identify and assist in the preparation of capital and revenue schemes to enhance engineering and production performance.
  • Develop, prepare, and submit Major Maintenance proposals and schedules, with responsibility for justification and full implementation.
  • Organize and manage the training and development of the multi-discipline engineering team and production personnel.
  • Lead and assist in project implementation of capital, revenue, and major maintenance schemes.
  • Negotiate contracts, organize, and control specialist contractors providing maintenance and services.
  • Lead and coordinate investigations, identify root cause, and implement solutions to problems occurring within the area of responsibility.
  • Monitor KPIs for the area of responsibility, identify deviations, and implement corrective action.
  • Manage and develop Engineers and Craft teams to satisfy current and long-term Business objectives.

Requirements

Essential

  • Engineering qualification (HNC or higher) and at least 5 years' experience in a supervisory or technical role.
  • Plant engineering experience, ideally with an understanding of VIM, VAR, ESR Furnaces, Heat Treatment Furnaces, and associated auxiliary equipment.
  • Experience and knowledge of Hydraulics, Pneumatics, and VAC systems.
  • Experience with a CMMS (INFOR current system).
  • Strong technical knowledge of engineering principles and reliability-based maintenance.
  • Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills with a collaborative approach.

  • Well-developed communication and relationship-building skills and an ability to work with various stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.

Working Pattern

This is a Monday to Friday role, 8 am - 4 pm.
