As the Head of Commercial, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the UK Atomic Energy Authority's mission to lead the delivery of sustainable fusion energy and maximize the scientific and economic benefits.

The Commercial team is responsible for ensuring the organization has the necessary resources and capabilities to deliver its mission. You will be responsible for managing a team of approximately 30 staff, working closely with the Commercial Director to ensure the team is effective and compliant in the delivery of services to the business.

The role involves:

  • Managing the Commercial Department, including setting targets and monitoring performance, and ensuring the organization has the necessary resource capabilities, including training, development, and succession planning.
  • Procurement and commercial issues for UKAEA within operational areas, supporting growth and development, with a value of external spend exceeding £200M per annum.
  • Controlling the overall commercial procurement strategy and actively developing and implementing it to deliver key strategies that operate at UKAEA.
  • Owning, leading, maintaining, and proactively improving commercial systems, protocols, templates, and procedures within the Procurement team.
  • Providing commercial advice on all aspects of procurement and commercial contracts and taking full responsibility for leading on all decision-making in this area.
