Bookkeeper Role Overview

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Bookkeeper/Accounts Assistant to join a reputable company based in the North West region. You will be working in a small accounts team, reporting directly to the company director.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations on a timely basis, ensuring all transactions are allocated and understood.
  • Monthly and weekly reporting to management, providing accurate and timely financial information.
  • Prepare bank payment runs and reconciliations, maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Maintain ledgers in Sage for management and statutory accounting purposes, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Credit control - chasing debtors and ensuring balances are collected on a timely basis or appropriately escalated.
  • Preparation of VAT returns, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.
  • Pay creditors on a timely basis, ensuring cash flow of the business is managed effectively.
  • Process payroll on a timely basis, ensuring accuracy and compliance with employment law.
  • Work with the business to resolve credit control issues, focusing on working capital and debtor days.
  • Supporting directors with month-end reporting, providing accurate and timely financial information.
  • Keeping Sage up to date, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.
Requirements:
  • At least 3 years' experience in a similar accounts/bookkeeping role.
  • Experience using Sage 50, with a strong understanding of its functionality and capabilities.
  • Must have experience in payroll, with a strong understanding of employment law and regulations.
  • AAT or equivalent qualification - desirable.
  • Good level of IT skills, with a strong understanding of Excel spreadsheets.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
