Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Healthcare Support Worker to join our team at Dan y Bont, a specialist care facility for individuals with learning disabilities. As part of Swansea Bay University Health Board's Mental Health and Learning Disability Delivery Unit, we provide a dynamic and challenging work environment that supports adults with complex needs.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work closely with qualified nursing staff to contribute to the care and development of our service users, ensuring a holistic delivery of care and services that are coherent and consistently applied. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing person-centred care that promotes equality and dignity for all service users
  • Working effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team to achieve delegated tasks and promote patient safety
  • Communicating effectively with patients, relatives, and carers, as well as other members of the healthcare team
  • Participating in a rotating shift pattern to ensure 24/7 coverage
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of QCF Level 3 (formerly NVQ Level 3) in Health or a willingness to complete this qualification within an agreed timeframe
  • Evidence of maintaining your personal development and continuing professional education
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales
  • Basic physiology knowledge, including normal vital signs, fluid balance, and nutritional requirements
  • Understanding of confidentiality, consent, and safeguarding principles
Desirable Criteria

While not essential, we welcome applications from candidates with:

  • Previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant or in a similar role
  • Qualification in administration of Buccal Midazolam
  • Knowledge of caring for individuals with specific conditions, such as dementia or mental illness
