Bristol, Bristol, United Kingdom North Bristol NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

This role presents a unique opportunity to become a key player in the North Bristol NHS Trust, focusing on the elimination of disparities within our community and ensuring that patient and caregiver involvement is central to our operations.

Cancer Alliances serve as pivotal entities in realizing the ambitions outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan for cancer care. By fostering collaboration across various organizations, we prioritize the patient experience in all our initiatives, cultivating an environment that empowers individuals to make informed decisions.

We are seeking a Project Manager specializing in engagement and inequalities to tackle the challenges of disparity, enhance patient experiences, and integrate public involvement into all levels of decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of a proactive team, you will contribute to the effective delivery of cancer services within the North Bristol NHS Trust.

Your leadership will guide the Trust's initiatives for Patient & Public Engagement and inequalities programs.

You will ensure that engagement with patients, the public, and stakeholders is meaningful, addressing disparities to enhance the quality of care and experiences for cancer patients.

This includes:

  • Formulating and executing a comprehensive engagement and inequalities strategy in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Leading and coordinating the approach to inequalities, working alongside various programs to develop a cohesive strategy.
  • Establishing, coordinating, and supporting the Patient & Public Forum.
  • Creating and implementing a recruitment plan to engage patients and the public, ensuring representation from underrepresented demographics.

This position is funded through a partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, necessitating collaboration to provide regular updates and reviews. The successful candidate will represent both Macmillan Cancer Support and the North Bristol NHS Trust.

We are looking for an individual with substantial experience in patient engagement and/or inequalities within administrative or clinical settings.

About Us

Joining our team offers a fresh challenge in a dynamic and innovative environment focused on improvement and transformation. If you are dedicated to enhancing cancer care, this role is tailored for you. You will benefit from a structured orientation and development pathway.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a dynamic team to support the delivery of effective cancer services.

Your leadership will be crucial in guiding the Trust's Patient & Public Engagement and inequalities initiatives.

You will ensure that engagement with patients, the public, and stakeholders is meaningful, addressing disparities to improve the quality of care and experiences for cancer patients.

This includes:

  • Managing and overseeing specific projects related to Patient & Public Involvement and inequalities.
  • Maintaining a network of Patient & Public Involvement across stakeholder organizations and participating in national groups.
  • Collaborating with Macmillan and other key stakeholders to drive initiatives forward.

This role requires adept negotiation and influence skills with senior service directors, clinicians, managers, and commissioners at both operational and strategic levels.

The ability to think and act swiftly in response to changing circumstances while maintaining a focus on overarching priorities is essential. Working at a senior level in a multi-organizational context, you will identify shared goals and facilitate organizational change to achieve desired outcomes.

This position is designed to blend subject matter expertise with technical skills to ensure robust service delivery.

You will champion the significance of developing and executing a work program that aligns with the aspirations of the Cancer Strategy and Long-Term Plan concerning Patient & Public Involvement and inequalities.

The successful candidate will lead the development and implementation of the engagement and inequalities strategy, ensuring alignment with stakeholder objectives.

Essential Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of relevant and recent professional development.
  • Extensive experience in patient engagement and/or inequalities roles.
  • Proven track record in project management, change management, and quality improvement.
  • Experience in navigating complex environments with multiple stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
