About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our team at Pen Underwriting. As a key member of our Casualty team, you will be responsible for underwriting new and renewal business, assessing risks, and ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite and assess risk in accordance with our underwriting philosophy, rules, and guidelines.
  • Determine appropriate pricing and ensure compliance with documentation standards to maximise business growth and profitability.
  • Actively participate in seeking new business opportunities within existing relationships and the wider insurance market.
  • Engage with brokers in servicing and renewal of the existing book, supporting our underwriting strategy and business growth targets.
  • Provide expert underwriting guidance, coaching, and mentoring to less experienced underwriters.
  • Develop and maintain strong broker relationships across regions and contribute to the team's goal of writing a sustainable portfolio of professional indemnity business.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimise processes and enhance overall efficiency.
  • Analyse market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to identify opportunities and threats.
About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Underwriter with a strong background in Casualty insurance. You will have a university degree and Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) certification, with a minimum of 3 years' experience in underwriting within Casualty. You will also have a working knowledge of the local insurance marketplace and be able to demonstrate an ability to learn about our enterprise and business unit critical business issues and financial drivers.
