Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire, United Kingdom NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Full time

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde stands as one of the largest healthcare providers in the UK, employing approximately 40,000 professionals across a diverse range of clinical and non-clinical roles. Our organization is dedicated to delivering comprehensive healthcare services, including acute hospital care, primary care, community services, and mental health support to a population exceeding 1.15 million, expanding to 2.2 million when considering our regional and national services.

As part of our commitment to enhancing work-life balance, NHS Scotland is transitioning to a reduced full-time working week of 37 hours, effective from April 2024, with no corresponding reduction in salary. This adjustment will also apply on a pro-rata basis for part-time employees. Please note that some service areas may require temporary adjustments to accommodate this change, which may involve working up to an additional 30 minutes per week until new schedules are implemented. For any inquiries regarding this transition, please reach out to the Recruiting Board.

The position entails a standard shift pattern from Monday to Friday.

This is a fixed-term role lasting 12 months.

Role Overview: The Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist will oversee the provision of a specialized Clinical Psychology service tailored for older adults referred through the multi-disciplinary East Dunbartonshire Older People's Mental Health Service. The successful candidate will conduct advanced psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions while offering guidance and consultation regarding clients' psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and caregivers, all while operating independently within established professional guidelines and the team's policies.

Qualifications and Experience: Candidates should possess a Clinical or Counselling Psychology qualification, with a robust background in working with diverse client populations across various care settings, particularly in specialist Older People's Mental Health Services. Experience in clinical leadership roles within multi-disciplinary or multi-agency environments, along with the ability to provide consultation and supervision on psychological care aspects, is essential.

As a member of the Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) Older People's Psychology Service, you will contribute to a highly specialized service dedicated to older adults within the GG&C board area. The mental health component of this service is delivered through active participation in Community Mental Health Teams for Older People throughout the health board.

The department also encompasses an Acute Hospital Liaison Clinical Psychology Service for older adults in hospital settings, a Young Onset Dementia Service, a Care Home Liaison Psychology Service, and the OPTIMAL Team, which focuses on broadening access to evidence-based psychological interventions across GG&C. Additionally, you will be part of the In-patient Older People's Psychology Team, delivering psychological services to older adults referred by colleagues in Older People's Services.

Professional Leadership: Oversight and operational management are provided by the Older People's Psychology Service and the Psychology Directorate. It is imperative that candidates have completed post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996), accredited by the BPS or HCPC. This training should encompass models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, multiple distinct psychological therapies, and lifespan developmental psychology. Current registration with the HCPC is also required. The post holder may be expected to deliver clinical psychology services across various locations as needed.
