Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Band 2 Healthcare Assistant to join our paediatric team within the Children's Unit. While this position is for a Band 2, successful candidates who meet the necessary criteria will be offered a Band 3 role in line with the recent re-banding of HCA's. For candidates who do not meet the Band 3 criteria on appointment, we will expedite relevant training to support their development.

Main Duties

As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will support the nursing team to deliver high-quality care while prioritizing the needs of children and their families. You will be part of an enthusiastic, friendly, and hardworking team, working in a busy environment that requires flexibility and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in creating a welcoming and non-threatening environment for children and their families.
  • Support patient care according to the care plan, under the supervision of trained staff.
  • Carry out delegated nursing tasks, subject to monitoring and evaluation by senior staff.
  • Contribute to the wellbeing of patients, ensuring their comfort and dignity are maintained.
  • Deliver food and drinks to babies and children, in line with their care plan, including the preparation of infant formula feeds.
  • Escort patients to other departments in the hospital and regional centres for investigations, as required.
  • Ensure a high level of quality care is offered to patients attending the department.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the healthcare team.
  • Attend briefings, meetings, and training sessions, as required.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE or equivalent in English Language and Maths, or demonstrate competency in the above.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Care (or other relevant subject).
  • Desire and ability to undertake appropriate training.

Desirable

  • Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development.

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of working with babies/children and young people.
  • Good understanding of the role of the Health Care Support Worker.

Desirable

  • Experience of working within a healthcare environment.

Key Skills

Essential

  • Ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken English.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Good organisation skills.
  • Demonstrate a positive approach to team working.
