Join Us as a Founder in Residence for Climate Solutions
We are seeking innovative individuals with both technical and commercial expertise who are passionate about establishing and developing a globally impactful, high-growth enterprise from the ground up.
We invite applications from seasoned professionals in industry, startups, or those engaged in new scientific or engineering technology development, regardless of location, to collaborate with us in tackling the pressing global issue of CO2 management and storage.
You will collaborate closely with the DSV team and the current Founder in Residence in this domain to co-create and launch a new venture. Upon incorporation of the new entity with initial funding from DSV, you and your co-founders will retain a majority ownership stake in the business and continue to receive ongoing support from the DSV team post-launch.
The role is full-time, initially remote (work from anywhere), with potential relocation options once the new venture is established.
The Opportunity: Advancing CO2 Management and Storage
CO2 storage plays a vital role in the carbon dioxide removal (CDR) value chain. Technological methods for extracting carbon from the atmosphere (direct air capture) rely on effective CO2 storage for achieving "negative emissions." Carbon sequestration offers a unique opportunity for long-term, sustainable carbon removal solutions and a source of valuable materials, thereby preventing emissions from traditional alternatives. However, challenges persist regarding emissions throughout the entire CDR lifecycle, the permanence of storage, market size constraints, and the costs associated with conversion processes.
CO2 features robust C=O double bonds that necessitate substantial energy to break; consequently, most carbon sequestration efforts have been confined to exogenic reaction schemes, such as mineralization, which produce carbonates above ground for use in construction materials. While aggregates and concrete represent the largest material market today, they are limited in scale. Beyond this, we must identify low-energy, cost-effective conversion pathways for a diverse array of carbon-based materials and chemicals with functional properties tailored for specific applications.
Our Approach
We aim to develop technologies that unlock CO2 conversion pathways for effective, low-energy, permanent sequestration. Progressing electrochemical, mechanochemical, or biochemical technologies for various feedstocks and catalysts for efficient CO2 reduction or polymerization could pave the way for sequestration at the gigaton scale while simultaneously adding economic value.
Who Should Consider This Opportunity
The most suitable candidates will likely possess several of the following qualifications:
- PhD or equivalent industry R&D experience focused on mineralization, electrochemistry, or catalysis;
- Comprehensive understanding of state-of-the-art (SOTA) technologies and limitations in at least one of the following fields: CO2 conversion, electrochemical processes, biochemical reactors;
- Extensive knowledge of CO2 logistics and transportation systems;
- Industry-specific expertise, commercial acumen (e.g., strategic partnerships, manufacturing, procurement, etc.), and a network within the carbon market and related sectors;
- Experience in developing and scaling new technologies from concept to demonstration;
- Proven track record in securing funding from early-stage investors/VCs;
- Experience in building and scaling a high-growth enterprise (leadership or executive roles).
