We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Aseptic Services Technician to join our team at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective preparation of high-risk injectable medicines.
Key Responsibilities- Support the Aseptic Services Team in the day-to-day running of the Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit (PASU), ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and Good Distribution Practice (GDP).
- Assist in the preparation and checking of aseptically prepared products, including cytotoxics and monoclonal antibodies, under the supervision of a qualified pharmacist.
- Participate in pre and in-process checking of products prepared aseptically by PASU and maintain competence in this area.
- Supervise operators during aseptic preparation, ensuring adherence to departmental standard operating procedures.
- Collate and pick orders for pre-prepared products, and place and check orders using an online IT ordering system.
- Accurately complete checks to enable safe receipt of all deliveries of pre-prepared aseptic products, raw materials, consumables, and equipment.
- Dispense all pre-prepared aseptic products, including cytotoxic, high-risk injectables, parenteral nutrition, oral chemotherapy, clinical trials, and support medication.
- Participate in documentation and processing of wasted, quarantined, and re-used pre-made injectables.
- NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent, plus accredited underpinning knowledge (BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent).
- Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Eligible and willing to undertake Pre and In-process checking qualification within aseptic services.
- Eligible and willing to undertake Cleanroom Supervision in Pharmacy Technical Services Accreditation.
- Attended or willing to attend the Aseptic Preparation and Dispensing of Medicines (TSET) training.
- Previous hospital pharmacy experience.
- Previous aseptic preparation experience.
- Previous clean room environment experience.
- Stock control and rotation experience.
- Supervision and co-ordination of service activities experience.
- Ability to manipulate fine tools and materials with physical accuracy and dexterity.
- Ability to work in an isolator fully gloved and gowned.
- Ability to clean sterile cleanrooms as required.
- Accurate with attention to detail.
- Able to concentrate for extended periods where work pattern is unpredictable.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate information effectively to staff and patients using clear written and spoken English.
- Ability to perform numerical calculations accurately.
