About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mooring Hand to join our team at the Port of Dover. As a Mooring Hand, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of vessels within the port.

Main Responsibilities
  • Support the Port operation in securing and letting go of vessels harbouring within the Port of Dover.
  • Operate Link Span equipment for the embarkation and disembarkation of vehicles.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times, adhering to all requirements of the OCS Health and Safety Policy.
  • Attend training courses as identified by your line manager and familiarise yourself with the company's safety policy and working instructions.
  • Carry out all tasks willingly and safely to the best of your ability.
  • As part of a team, secure and let go any vessel as directed.
  • Support the operation with Ad Hoc works as required.
  • Treat each member of the team and all other OCS staff, clients, visitors, and contractors with civility and respect at all times.
  • Be responsible for your own time-keeping records and follow the procedure for signing in/out, clocking in/out, or swiping in/out.
  • Inform your line manager/designated person as soon as you become aware you will not be available for work and every day thereafter until covered by a doctor's sick note/self-certification form.
  • Ensure that all issued PPE is carefully stored and maintained, and report any defects to your line manager immediately.
  • Control and agree all holiday entitlement with the designated person at your site and provide reasonable notice of any planned absence to allow for coverage.
  • Be prepared to carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the company to further the aims of the business.
  • Reflect the OCS safety image positively through your actions.
  • Ensure that you have received the necessary training to competently carry out your duties and responsibilities.
  • Take responsibility for reviewing the safe system of work prior to the commencement of the work activity and acknowledge and accept a personal responsibility for safety.
  • Ensure that vehicles and equipment are maintained and fit for purpose.
  • Raise any concerns over Health & Safety breaches in accordance with Company Procedure.
Requirements
  • Good level of secondary school education.
  • Knowledge of ports is preferable but not essential.
  • Ability to communicate with staff and public alike.
  • Self-motivated and flexible.
  • Physically able to climb ladders and heave Mooring lines.
  • Able to cope with shift work, including nights, weekends, and Bank Holidays.
  • Successfully complete basic and enhanced Criminal Record Checks.
