Program Coordinator, New London Architecture (NLA)
Below is a comprehensive overview of the responsibilities and expectations for this position. Are you the ideal candidate for this role?
NLA is in search of a dedicated Program Coordinator to enhance our dynamic team. This role presents an exciting chance to contribute to our innovative and proactive program initiatives. You will be instrumental in executing a variety of projects that embody NLA and the vibrant architectural community of London, including design challenges, commissions, workshops, and award ceremonies.
About NLA
NLA serves as London's architectural community; an independent, purpose-driven membership organization catering to all stakeholders interested in the built environment of London. Our programs engage a wide audience, from industry professionals and policymakers to local residents and international visitors, aiming to educate, inspire, and foster positive transformation.
Addressing themes from public spaces and workplaces to housing and transportation, NLA's extensive array of projects and events connects a network of built environment professionals across both private and public sectors, uniting the industry to cultivate a better urban landscape.
Role Overview
The Program Coordinator will oversee the management of significant projects and initiatives, including major design challenges and award programs, as well as content associated with competitions, events, research, exhibitions, and publications. This position is vital to our operations, ensuring all initiatives align with the New London Agenda and fulfill the requirements of our members.
Collaborating with the Head of Collaborate and the Director of the London Festival of Architecture, you will manage design challenges for NLA Collaborate and the London Festival of Architecture, from conception to execution. Furthermore, you will partner with the Head of Program, NLA, to oversee our award programs, including the New London Awards and Don't Move, Improve.
Employment Details
Work Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week, with flexible working arrangements available.
Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience.
Location: NLA's office in the City of London.
Employee Benefits: 25 days of annual leave, excluding public holidays, with additional leave available upon managerial approval. Access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for employees and their families, health and wellness initiatives, enhanced parental leave, childcare voucher schemes, and a cycle-to-work program.
Pension Plan: Participation in a pension scheme with employer contributions, with the option for employees to opt out.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Head of Collaborate and Director of LFA to formulate strategies for NLA Collaborate, including introducing new competitions, commissions, and exploring additional projects such as design charrettes and co-design workshops.
- Lead the project management of NLA Collaborate and LFA design challenges.
- Manage competition briefings, timelines, and budgets; oversee entries; coordinate judging panels; and maintain communication with participants.
- Work with winning teams and clients on project execution, including design development, permissions, legal processes, installations, and deinstallations, ensuring the legacy of temporary projects.
- Supervise the New London Awards and Don't Move, Improve, including managing timelines, briefings, and budgets; leading project teams; organizing related events; and supporting communications, events, and client relations teams to deliver our award programs.
- Collaborate with the Head of Program, NLA, on managing and delivering assigned events, research, publications, and exhibitions as necessary.
- Work with the Client Relations team to understand our membership and drive its growth.
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients to create project briefs for design competitions and broader engagement projects, which may include organizing guided site tours for shortlisted practices and local stakeholders, community consultation events, or temporary exhibitions.
- Collaborate with the Communications team to ensure content for the website, newsletters, and other communications is current and delivered punctually.
- Assist the Events team with the logistics of executing related events.
- Provide guidance and support to a Program Coordinator, overseeing their daily activities and performance management.
Desired Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong, proven experience in program management, whether as part of a team or as an independent contributor. A deep interest in the key issues affecting London's built environment industry and their implications for communities across the city is essential. Candidates should align with the New London Agenda, advocating for a city characterized by equity, sustainability, and prosperity. Our team values individuals who are consistently informed , rigorous , collaborative , and responsive in their work.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge and interest in architecture, planning, and design in London, supported by a graduate or postgraduate qualification in architecture or a related field.
- Proven ability to manage and deliver multiple projects, competitions, and awards concurrently.
- Exceptional attention to detail, along with strong communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.

- Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Office 365, Zealous, Cognito, Adobe Creative Suite, and Zoom. Familiarity with Apple Mac OS is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills, a professional telephone manner, and an excellent command of English.
Please note that some of NLA's events may occur early in the morning or late in the evening, with certain projects taking place on weekends during the London Festival of Architecture, so flexibility around event/project days is essential.
