About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Permitting Officer to join our Water Quality team at the Environment Agency. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the environment by determining complex applications for environmental permits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine complex applications for environmental permits, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Deliver high-quality and risk-based environmental permitting decisions to tight deadlines.
  • Support other Permitting Officers across the team, using your strong coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Collaborate with professionals from various disciplines and engage with permit applicants, ranging from multinational companies to individual householders.
  • Contribute to creating a more sustainable and safer environment for all, ensuring that permits are in place to enable compliance with EA processes and regulatory obligations.
Requirements
  • Strong experience and technical competency in at least one of the following areas: water regulation, modelling of sanitary or hazardous pollutants, wastewater treatment and/or wastewater engineering.
  • Knowledge of water quality issues and policies surrounding them.
  • Experience in coaching/mentoring others in a technical discipline.
  • Confidence in challenging, questioning, and influencing a range of internal and external stakeholders.
