Job Title: Evening Transport Assistant

BCP Council is seeking a skilled and organized Evening Transport Assistant to join our team.

Job Summary

We are looking for a detail-oriented and customer-focused individual to assist with the planning, procurement, and organization of passenger transport services for mainstream students and those with special educational needs/disability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process education transport requests from Transport Commissioners, ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable services.
  • Optimize resources through planning and procurement of passenger transport solutions, including local public transport, contracted vehicles, community transport, and in-house fleet.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, commissioners, school staff, social workers, transport suppliers, and other agencies to ensure smooth day-to-day operation of education transport.
  • Develop risk assessments and individual travel plans to ensure safe, sustainable, and cost-effective transport.
  • Maintain passenger transport databases for reliable service delivery and accurate management information.
  • Ensure value for money and compliance with financial regulations through effective procurement of passenger transport.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs (A*-C) or equivalent academic achievements.
  • Proven competence in working in a demanding administrative role within a busy office environment.
  • Knowledge of education transport legislation, health and safety, and operational good practice.
  • Demonstrate an empathetic understanding of young people with special educational needs/disability and the impact on families.
  • Previous experience in customer services, logistics, or passenger transport.
  • Understanding of good procurement practice and contract management.
Personal Qualities and Attributes
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to design efficient integrated transport schedules.
  • Good IT skills with the ability to use common and passenger transport specific software.
  • Confidence to work on own initiative to solve problems and manage risks associated with education transport.
  • Positive approach to work, self-motivated with a commitment to professional development.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to equality and diversity.
Working Hours and Requirements

Flexible approach to working hours, including cover from 07:30 until 17:00, with potential evening and weekend work on occasions. Must be able to travel using public or other forms of transport or hold a valid UK driving license with access to own or pool car.

Enhanced DBS check required.
