Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer - Competitive Package - Long-Term Opportunity

Location: Northern England - Permanent Role in Defence Sector

A Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer is sought by a prominent international company specializing in Defence and Weapons Systems, which is currently expanding its engineering team.

This position offers hybrid and flexible working arrangements to accommodate various work styles.

The remuneration package will be commensurate with skills and experience.

The Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer will join the Mechanical Engineering division, playing a crucial role in implementing technical modifications to existing products within the Defence and Weapons Systems sector.

The role encompasses Mechanical Design, Testing, and Trials, providing an opportunity to influence the development of next-generation defence platforms and innovative technologies.

Key Responsibilities for the Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer

  • Lead the resolution of technical challenges as part of an integrated project team, liaising with Technical Leads and clients.
  • Develop design solutions aligned with client specifications, ensuring validation and verification throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Review and assess design outputs and technical documentation, offering guidance to junior engineers.
  • Conduct technical analyses and investigations, preparing comprehensive reports with recommendations to enhance engineering capabilities.
  • Plan, execute, and oversee assigned projects or work packages, ensuring adherence to project timelines and requirements.

Essential Skills, Experience, and Qualifications for the Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, or substantial experience in an engineering environment, with proficiency in drafting and reviewing technical documentation.
  • Experience in design within production or prototyping settings, utilizing finite element analysis (FEA) software for structural and stress assessments, and product data management (PDM) tools for data configuration management.
  • Familiarity with technical office processes, standards, and operational guidelines.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the complete Product and Engineering Life Cycle.
  • Knowledge of engineering drawing standards and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Proficient in CAD software (such as CREO or similar) and PLM software (like Teamcenter or equivalent).
  • Eligibility to obtain BPSS Security Clearance and SC Clearance in the future due to the nature of the products and systems involved.
