Role Summary
Everest People Solutions is seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to join our team at a large-scale animal by-product processing facility. The primary objective of this role is to enhance production line performance through both proactive and reactive engineering interventions. This position also emphasizes the importance of maintaining health and safety protocols, overseeing machinery operations, rectifying mechanical issues, and assisting with operational activities.
Key Responsibilities of the Senior Mechanical Technician
- Engage with production supervisors and management to pinpoint potential challenges and reduce operational downtime.
- Contribute to the exploration of strategies aimed at boosting plant efficiency.
- Collaborate with the Engineering Administrator to ensure adequate inventory of spare components is maintained.
- Adhere to scheduled preventative maintenance and lubrication routines.
- Coordinate with production leadership to plan necessary maintenance tasks, secure approvals, and ensure all required permits are obtained prior to commencement.
- Provide guidance and support to external contractors during installation activities as required.
- Uphold a safe working environment by complying with site safety regulations and ensuring workspaces are left clean and organized after task completion.
- Monitor machinery and auxiliary equipment during production, ensuring all relevant documentation is completed.
- Address mechanical defects, following established procedures to resolution.
- Participate in mandatory meetings and training sessions as directed by management.
Qualifications for the Senior Mechanical Technician
- Demonstrated experience in a Mechanical Technician role within a processing, manufacturing, or heavy industry setting.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Capable of making informed decisions under pressure and communicating these effectively to ensure seamless operations.
- Certification in Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles, with an emphasis on continuous improvement.
- Higher qualification in IOSH or NEBOSH related to health and safety standards.
- Proficient in problem-solving methodologies, including 8D techniques.
- Experience in creating and analyzing Value Stream Maps (VSM).
- Familiarity with Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMs).
- Knowledge of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations.
- Experience with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) safety procedures.
- Skilled in fault diagnosis techniques such as half split, input/output, and the 6 Point Technique.
- NVQ Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience with calibration processes and protocols.
- Detail-oriented with a strong ability to identify potential issues and escalate them appropriately to prevent operational disruptions.
- Excellent communication skills, enabling clear conveyance of technical information and instructions to team members and stakeholders.
- Proficient in English, both written and spoken, ensuring effective communication.
