Community Organiser Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Community Organiser to lead the revitalisation of a historic Grade II Listed building in Great Torrington. This is a unique opportunity to breathe new life into a vibrant community-owned bar, restaurant, and hotel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Community Engagement: Meet with residents, local groups, and stakeholders to promote the project's vision and build enthusiasm for the project.
  • Project Management: Handle support letters, maintain a contact database, manage email and phone communications, and keep accurate records.
  • Financial Management: Perform basic bookkeeping and assist in managing project finances.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Promote the project and share updates through various social media channels.
  • Event Organisation: Organise community events and promotional activities to raise awareness and increase engagement.
Requirements:
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Independence and Self-Motivation: Able to work independently and manage your own workload effectively.
  • Basic Bookkeeping Skills: Comfortable with basic bookkeeping and financial management.

This is a self-employed position, reporting to the Board of Directors, working 17.5 hours per week. While you'll work primarily from home, you'll also be involved in local events and meetings. All work-related expenses will be reimbursed, and you may be asked to take on additional tasks to help meet project goals.
