Role Summary:

We are currently seeking a skilled paralegal to join our Claims Against Public Authorities and Inquest department. The successful candidate will engage in supervised casework and provide essential support to our legal team.

Responsibilities will include case preparation, conducting legal research, gathering evidence from clients and witnesses, and attending court hearings and conferences. A strong commitment to safeguarding civil liberties and advocating for human rights is essential. While prior experience in this area is preferred, all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate effectively within a team while also managing individual responsibilities.
  • Maintain financial oversight of work completed, ensuring that billing targets are achieved.
  • Adhere to Quality Control standards as outlined in the Office Manual, addressing any compliance issues promptly.
  • Retain necessary accreditation qualifications as applicable.
  • Contribute to the firm’s growth by participating in marketing initiatives aligned with the Business Plan.
  • Assist in addressing client complaints related to your cases.
  • Draft legal documents, engage with clients, and utilize advocacy skills when necessary.
  • Support audit inquiries as required.
  • Undertake any other relevant tasks as directed by management.
Essential Skills:
  • A strong academic background with relevant experience; legal aid experience is crucial.
  • Proficiency in Legal Aid and Litigation, ideally within Inquests or Claims Against Public Authorities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Familiarity with the Legal Aid Agency's online CCMS system is advantageous.
  • Strong legal knowledge, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent administrative capabilities, including document management and legal aid documentation.
