About the Role

In the role of Company Accountant, you will be responsible for managing the daily finances and reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and senior managers on a day-to-day basis. The Accountant role also requires a business partnering approach with other operational leaders. You will coordinate and manage all aspects of the finance department, including maintaining all financial and balance sheet schedules, completing month-end processes, and ensuring adherence to financial policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Planning and Analysis: Prepare monthly management accounts, maintain cash flow forecasts, and raise payments for authorization in line with credit supplier agreements.
  • Payroll Management: Gather all employee information, liaise with external providers, raise payments, reconcile accounts, and act as the point of contact for all payroll enquiries.
  • Financial Reporting: Balance sheet reconciliation and posting month-end journal entries, prepare and record supplier and customer statement reconciliations, and prepare VAT returns for management approval.
  • Financial Analysis: Develop leading and lagging KPIs to track business performance, including financial and delivery performance metrics.
  • Internal Controls: Maintain internal controls and support the annual audit activity.
  • Financial Planning: Assist with the preparation of the annual company budget and quarterly updates as required.
  • Financial Administration: Control petty cash, support office administrators with sales and purchase invoices, and manage company insurances, business rates, leasing, health scheme, and company cars.
  • Subsidiary Accounting: Cover the accounting and reporting for any subsidiaries as acquired or created.
  • Ad-Hoc Activities: Perform other ad-hoc activities as required, including capital expenditure requisitions, bespoke reporting, and business planning/scenarios and their financial implications.
Person Specification:
  • Qualifications: Part-qualified accountant (QBE considered with relevant experience).
  • Skills: Sound analytical skills, good attention to detail, excellent communication, interpersonal, and self-management/responsible skills.
  • Abilities: Ability to communicate with non-financial people, flexible, proactive, and willing approach, comfortable working within a small team.
  • Personal Qualities: Innovative and inquisitive mind to challenge and improve existing and new processes and controls, ability to produce accurate work, and self-motivation to meet targets.
  • Requirements: Hold a current UK driving license and have the right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
